Join The Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E. Initiative and Senator Martin Heinrich, the current National Outdoor Opportunity Fund sponsor. This legislation will reshape the lives of youth and families nationwide by creating greater opportunities for valuable nature-based experiences. The National Outdoor Opportunity Act would establish a new Congressionally chartered foundation similar to the National Park Foundation. This foundation would raise private dollars to provide grants to state-based opportunity funds and other in-state organizations that expand outdoor opportunities for young people. This legislation is inspired by the success and momentum of the outdoor opportunity funds created in North Carolina, New Mexico, Colorado, and California.
This legislation will:
Eliminate barriers to nature access for all youth and families and foster a stronger connection to the outdoors.
Nurture improved physical and mental well-being through outdoor engagement.
Pave the way for careers in conservation and public land management for young people.
Help drive robust outdoor recreation economy.
